The Financial Planning Association (FPA) has introduced a new certification program designed to help financial advisors build stronger cybersecurity practices and meet evolving regulatory expectations.
The Cybersecurity for Financial Planners program, developed in collaboration with FCI Cyber and Buckler, LLC, is available to both FPA members and non-members, with discounted pricing for members. According to FPA President Paul Brahim, the program aims to strengthen advisors' understanding of cybersecurity while reinforcing the integrity and trust behind their services.
According to WealthManagement, many advisors, especially those without formal cybersecurity education, face growing risks tied to digital vulnerabilities and oversight by agencies like the Securities and Exchange Commission, FINRA, the IRS, and the New York Department of Financial Services.
WealthManagement reports that the current initiative follows an earlier cybersecurity training program launched by the FPA in 2020. While successful, the FPA recognized the rapid pace of change in cybersecurity and opted to overhaul the original curriculum entirely, resulting in this newly launched, modernized certification.
